Malaysia’s Prime Minister: We Will Not Allow Our Territory to Be Used as a Transit Route for Shipments Supporting Israel

Al-Taj News – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday that his country would not allow its territory to be used as a transit route for any shipment supporting Israel’s military capabilities, stressing that any suspicious shipment would be subject to inspection and investigation in accordance with Malaysian law.

Anwar added, in a post on the “X” platform, that any violation established by the investigations would be met with decisive measures, stressing that Malaysia’s position is “clear and unequivocal.”

Anwar’s position came in response to a report by Bloomberg stating that Malaysian authorities had detained three containers bound for Israel at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in mid-August, which remain under investigation.

According to the agency, the three containers, transported by shipping company “A.P. Moller-Maersk,” were loaded with electric bicycle parts from a Chinese company, while tracking data showed that they remained at the port nearly a month after being detained.

The incident comes after another container was detained on August 7, having arrived from the Philippines and been bound for Israeli company “Elbit Systems,” which specializes in military technology, after the Malaysian border monitoring agency suspected that it contained weapons.

Anwar had stressed at the time that Malaysia would not be a transit route for commercial flows that “support or contribute to the brutality of the Israeli regime.”
